Are you new to tennis?

Keeping Score

Tennis scoring is a bit odd!  To win a high school match, you play the best of three sets.  A set is usually six games.  You must win a set by two or more games.  You begin a game at zero-zero which is called love-love.  The first point is 15, then 30, then 40.  The server calls out the score before serving, always stating their own score first.  So, if I'm serving and I win the fist point the score is 15-love.  Here's reference page that explains scoring in detail along with some of the history of tennis.

Tell me more about High School Tennis

In Michigan boys tennis season is in the summer and early fall.    Girls play in the spring.  The season begins with a week of tryouts (Walled Lake Schools are 'no-cut' so everyone can play tennis).  Tennis practice is everyday after school, unless there is a match.  Matches begin the second week of the season.  There are dual matches between two schools, and tournaments with multiple schools.  Walled Lake Central will have two teams:  The more experienced players are on the Varsity Team, while players with less experience play on the Junior Varsity (JV) Team.

Why is tennis so popular at Walled Lake Central?

At Walled Lake Central High School tennis is fun and challenging.  Players become close friends and team activities happen all year- including both tennis and social events.  Check out the Tennis Leadership Council and learn more about the fun events that the boys and girls teams plan together.

How does tennis compare with other sports?

Tennis is a life-long sport where you meet fun people regardless of your age.  Injuries in tennis are rare.  And, tennis is a game of integrity that attracts and helps develop high-achieving students.

Tennis teams are involved in our community

We believe that getting involved in the community is a crucial part of a well-rounded education. That's why we encourage our players to participate in volunteer work, service projects, and community events. By giving back to their community, our students develop empathy, compassion, and leadership skills.
